This page does the opposite: it prices only the installation — the fitting, wiring, groundworks and delivery that turn a crate into a working sauna — because that’s the part buyers consistently underbudget, and the part where quotes are hardest to compare.

Assembly: what fitters charge and why it varies
A barrel arrives as staves and bands; assembly is mechanical and quick — the bottom of the range, and a realistic DIY weekend for two competent people (DIY kit vs professional installation weighs it honestly). A flat-pack cabin is closer to small-scale carpentry: framing, insulation, vapour barrier, cladding, benching, glass — one to three days for a two-person crew, and where most of the £1,500–£3,000 quotes live. What a good fitting quote includes, itemised: placement and levelling on the prepared base, assembly and sealing, door and glass adjustment, heater mounting, guard rails, and commissioning to temperature. What it usually excludes — and you should confirm every time — the base, the electrics, and the crane.
The electrical line, separated
Even a modest heater draws more than any plug can carry — a 6 kW heater wants ~26 A on its own circuit (electrical requirements covers the detail). The £500–£1,500 range is mostly distance: a garden building needs SWA cable buried or clipped along the route, and long runs at higher amperage mean thicker, dearer cable. It’s notifiable under Part P — registered electrician, certificate at the end, no exceptions worth making.

The base, briefly
Every fitter’s first question is “what’s it sitting on?” — a filled cabin is 1,000–2,000 kg and must be dead level. Getting comparable quotes
Ask every bidder for the same four lines — assembly / electrics / base / delivery — plus lead time and who commissions the heater. The spread between “fully installed” quotes usually turns out to be different exclusions, not different prices.

Can I install a sauna myself and skip the fitting cost?
Partly. A barrel sauna is a realistic weekend self-assembly for two competent people, and many owners lay their own slab base. What you cannot legally or sensibly do yourself is the electrical circuit — that is notifiable work — and a wood-fired flue needs installing to the manufacturer's clearances. A common sensible split: self-assemble the cabin, pay the electrician, and have the heater commissioned professionally.
How long does sauna installation take?
Once everything is on site: a pre-assembled or barrel sauna is typically placed and working within a day; a flat-pack cabin takes one to three days' assembly; a bespoke or converted-room build runs one to three weeks. Add lead time for the base to be laid (and concrete to cure) and for the electrician — the calendar time from ordering to first sauna is usually several weeks even when the fitting itself is quick.
Is sauna installation cheaper if I buy the sauna from the same company?
Often bundled, not necessarily cheaper. Retailers quote attractive install add-ons but commonly exclude the base, the electrical circuit and craning — the three items that make up most of the real installation cost. Whoever you buy from, get the quote itemised against those three lines; a 'fully installed' price that doesn't mention electrics isn't one.
